Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It's about friends, family, and food: the real basics of what a good time is about. A few years ago, I got a bit more organized in my holiday preparations and started saving the recipes and writing down the menus to decide what worked and what didn't for future years.
Growing up, we had turkey and lasagne because... Italian family. These days we skip the lasagne and my husband David always makes the turkey and stuffing. It's something he's been doing since he was a student, when he used to cook a bird for the dorm, so even though it isn't exactly a family tradition, we still do it. (I have to admit, sometimes I wish I could put my spin on it, but I get the rest of the meal!)
I usually keep it pretty simple and traditional: mashed potatoes, green beans with almonds, pumpkin and apple pies. But...a couple of years ago, I found this recipe: Galatoire's Sweet Potato Cheesecake. It is heavenly and has become a yearly joy that is both a fabulous dessert and not complicated to make.
I would love to hear what your family favorites are. Let's trade some recipes!

PS What are your good veggie recipes? Mine are boring!
